Mama + Bub Yoga

Mama + Bub Yoga classes are more than just a class - together we create a community of mamas that support and encourage each other amongst the ever changing landscape of motherhood.

The first few weeks, months, years even of motherhood could be some of the most challenging we might face.

In class today we talked about the feeling of loneliness. We spend a lot of time on our own with babies not only during the day but throughout the night too.

Rarely do we spend this much time in our heads, alone with our thoughts. Add severe lack of sleep and a rollercoaster of hormones into the mix and its no wonder perinatal mental health problems affect between 10 to 20% of women during pregnancy and the first year after having a baby.

Being able to meet other likeminded Mamas in a safe space and share challenges, tips as well as solidarity can make the world of difference to your experience. Suddenly you don’t feel alone. And yes no doubt the loneliness will creep back in but you now have a weekly space where you can sit and share (or not) and just be in company.

Connections in class often lead to coffee, friendships and networks and without really realising it the community is there.

If you are feeling nervous about joining please know that you are also not alone - i think at least 50% of the mums that come to class are nervous before starting.

Will my baby cry for the whole class? Will i cry? Will i be able to do any of the moves?

Just a few of the questions that might be running through your head! Feel free to message with any more..

Will my baby cry for the whole class?

Most babies come to class and settle in fine- the lighting, the other babies and the calming music keep them distracted and they are usually happy to be somewhere new with your full attention on them. And if they do cry that is absolutely OK - babies cry - you are wired in to hear your baby’s cry with an intensity like no-one else, so to you it will seem overwhelming but to everyone else they will be so focused on their little ones they will hardly notice. Please don’t worry. You can always walk around the room, sit, feed, change, anything you need to do in the moment.

Will i cry?

You might well cry- if you are operating on minimal sleep, feeling emotional, overwhelmed, underwhelmed, anxious there’s a chance you might. But you are in good company. It is safe to let your emotions flow in this space and if you need a good cry just let it out. Mothers need to be mothered too. Please don’t be embarrassed.

Will i be able to do any of the moves?

Yes we definitely will be able to do some if not all of the moves. This class is gentle on your postnatal body and you don’t need any previous yoga experience to join. Your body has just done the most incredible thing and grown a human! Less is more in the early postnatal period and i invite you to take the journey back to yourself slowly.

Please get in touch if you’d like any more information at all, I would love to see you and your little one(s) in class. :)

Tiff x
